Things to make sure when you hire a Spanish Translator or Spanish Teacher!
Anyone would tell you to find somebody with experience! But, experience in what?
For a Translator:
- Someone who has real education in translation.
- A translator that is prompt to read in English and Spanish to learn about topics that are not covered in his or her acquired knowledge, before jumping into translating.
- Experienced with the Spanish regionalisms that your translation could require.
(Localization: for Mexican readers use Mexican regionalisms.) - Or, if your translation requires the broadest Spanish audience, make sure your translator uses standard Spanish, avoiding regionalisms.
- That the following process is applied in your translation job: First translation. Then, proofreading.
(Proofreading: correction of writing translation.) - For Literary Translations, you must hire a Writer who is also a Translator.
For a Spanish Teacher or Tutor:
- That the person is a native Spanish Linguistic or an avid connoisseur of Spanish grammar, syntax, orthography, plus a great reader because the best source of vocabulary in any language is build up by reading.
- Look for somebody with teaching experience in any field. Teaching is not an inherited virtue, it is a skill learned by practice.
- Find someone who understands the meaning of the word: PATIENCE.
